A DIY Spring Centerpiece

What do you do when you are wanting to brighten your room…shop for new decor right? Well, that’s what I would normally do anyway. However, I will confess that our family enjoys watching HGTV’s  Rehab Addict, and in light of recent shows, my girls and I decided that while we were making our Mother’s Day Photo Mason Jars, we would paint the other jars and create a “Spring” centerpiece for our home.

I wouldn’t say I’m a very crafty or DIY driven person, but lately it’s been something fun and actually kinda relaxing. Perhaps it’s because it’s totally different than sitting at my desk editing, or my photography (all of which I love), this is just another way for me to spend time with my girls and actually challenge myself to NOT go shopping for it, lol.  (I’m sure some of you can relate)

So, we painted our mason jars teal and yellow of course – what else could bring Spring/Summer to our home right? Next we shopped for something to place them in. Yes, I know I “shopped” for it. My girls were quick to remind me that the “rehab addict” lady doesn’t buy anything – well, most of the time, she doesn’t. And yes, that would be wonderful, but as I pointed out, we do not have a pile of wood lying around for Mommy to build anything right now, lol. Remember, we live in Palm Springs, we could probably build a sand castle or sand box with all the surrounding desert landscape. They laughed and agreed it would be “Okay” to shop for some of the materials.

So, off to Joann’s we went. I kinda had a crate idea in mind (again thank you Pinterest), and we found one that would work. As it turns out the Yellow mason jar didn’t quite work as we had imagined, but the girls did stumble upon floral arrangements that were already wrapped in burlap, and I let them pick out the flowers to put in the jars, so they were quite content.

I used paint that I already had in the garage, French Grey, to be exact. Next, we wrapped part of the rectangular crate with twine, used laminated burlap to place our finished spring centerpiece on and that was it. Not to bad for a non crafty photographer mom, lol. Of course now I want to repaint my entire house french grey, order new furniture, and install new floor and window covering to match, lol.  OR we could just buy a beach house…that would work for me to. Maybe one day, God does give us the desires of our hearts, so I’ll keep you posted on that :).

Until then, enjoy our “Spring Centerpiece”.

Blessings,
