Hello Friends!
Welcome to EMP’s Gratefulness Series in November – join me every Thursday!
Many of you may have already begun your November Thankfulness traditions, from posting family images, writing your “thankful for” lists, stepping out of your comfort zones and picking up the phone to chat with a long distance family member or friend.
So, today I wanted to share with you a mini series of the important aspects in my life and those things that I am Grateful for.
Here is a little overview of the topics you can expect to see over the next four weeks.
- My Devotional or Quiet Time – we will take a peek into what my daily routine is, my studies and favorite books for busy Moms, entrepreneurs and women.
- Family – Expect to see pure adorable cuteness with my girls, and maybe even our fur baby Lucy.
- My amazing clients – This one will be SO fun, and take you on a trip down memory lane for all EMP family, don’t miss it!
- Surprise…it’s a secret, it’s personal, it’s lovey and its all about my grateful heart.
One of my favorite verses has to do with attitude, gratitude, and thankfulness. I sing it to my girls every time they start to have a rough day – or to myself for that matter haha!
This week one of them had just that. She just couldn’t find anything to wear (even with an abundance of clothes in the closet – sadly I could relate to that, it happens to the best of us), she bumped her elbow and it really hurt, she was having a bad hair day and started comparing herself to Sister who “always has great hair”, the puppy dog put a hole in her favorite teal dress, no Lima bean seed for her School project -oops, mommy fail – that reminds me I better get one today lol! And to top it off, she just didn’t know what to eat!
Oh my goodness, my poor little one was having a rough day and a slight case of self pity, and I lovingly told her that. I said do you realize that everything you are saying is all about “you”. Nothing today has been positive about others or about what you do have; and that is not how Jesus would want us to think. After all, “This is the day which the Lord has made” right? She agreed and knew in her heart that all of this “stuff” didn’t really matter. As soon as she chose to see it, her little face was full of joy, just as it is most of the time.
Moral of the story: we all have rough days, no matter what age we are. We all can cave into self pity, and become so self focused that things feel negative, that nothing goes right – sometimes all day… There is HOPE! It’s in Jesus that we have fullness of joy, it’s with remembering what the Psalmist said in Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord has made; we will be full of joy and delight in it”. We all have a choice, we can choose how we allow situations and circumstance to affect our moods, our days, our thoughts which in turn affect our hearts and what eventually comes out of it.
My job as a Mommy is to teach my girls to choose everyday to have a happy heart, life is not easy, but choosing Joy and thankfulness sure does make more pleasant.
