Kara & Kent
Kara & Kent’s wedding love story will tug on your heart strings and leave you encouraged that there truly is a divine plan and destiny for all of us. One that is not just for ourselves, but for the special soulmate that we are destined to cherish for the rest of our lives.
Their Wedding Love Story
Who would have thought a brief encounter between an Oklahoma guy with a California girl in
Washington DC would spark a fire? But that is how it all started – at our nation’s capital during the 2017 National Prayer Breakfast. At the time, little did they realize that after years of waiting, trusting, and believing in God’s best, and
perfect timing, the dreams of Kent and Kara would align with His will.
Meet Kent
Beginning in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, he was all boy – wrestling, baseball, football, golf and basketball.
At age 19 he took a trip to South Africa with his grandfather Marvin Phillips which gave Kent a first real look
at the world outside of the US. He has now traveled to 38 different countries, co-founded and is a managing principal of Revayah Capital, a capital investment firm. Revayah, Hebrew for “overflowing,” connects business with his deepest passion.
Kent has traveled the world to engage with gospel-based organizations and collaboration with individuals,
companies, and government representatives in Washington DC, Europe, India, Africa, Switzerland, and even
China – bringing light into darkness.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for a number of organizations, including The Seed Company – a part of
Wycliffe Bible translators – the largest global Scripture translation organization.
Meet Kara
Early in Kara’s teen years, her interests turned to music. Her new emerging passion focused on piano, violin,
and vocals along with song and play writing. Motivated by the darkness in her generation, Kara developed a passion to reach her generation through edgy, hip, and bold media productions.
With songs recorded and albums produced in Nashville and Hollywood, Kara’s passion continued to grow –
with a purpose. Kara continued her passion as a college student by writing songs – looking for new and creative ways to
connect and bring light into her generation. Kara’s song and music video, “Save My Heart,” gained international attention and awarded the annual Sam Ash Coyote Radio Music Award along with a nomination by Hollywood’s Star Music Awards.
After performing at a range of venues including Michael W. Smith’s Rocket Town, in Nashville, The Abbey in Memphis, and Henry Fonda’s Music Box Theater in Hollywood, and touring high school and university
campuses in Southern California, Kara brought it all home to host a monthly music production in her own
home – the start of the “Untamed Generation” ministry.
Kara founded “Untamed” as a 501C3 non-profit organization to support the Gospel mission. For the purpose of reaching more millennials in the valley, Kara collaborated with dozens of local leaders, hundreds of volunteers, and moved “Untamed” productions into the Palm Desert Amphitheater.
Their Wedding Love Story Continues
With similar passions, Kent and Kara, living far apart, were individually invited to attend the annual National
Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. At a special gathering of young delegates from across the country during the National Prayer Breakfast, Kent and Kara crossed paths on January 31st, 2017. Kara recalls Kent opening the door and commenting about how cool her hair was! They didn’t exchange information and had no contact.
After 6 months, mutual friend had a strong conviction that Kent and Kara should get to know each other.
After a brief phone call from Kent, “somehow” Kara clearly felt the Lord saying to her “Kent gets you.” 5 months went by with no contact. Then, while Kara was praying Kent vividly came to Kara’s mind. She wrote his name on her notepad and amazingly just hours later got a call from him.
Now, it was once again time for the 2018 National Prayer Breakfast. “Somehow,” however, it was impressed upon Kara that Kent was to be her “husband” – even though all seemed impossible. Encouraged by friend and mentor Kara sought the Lord for the desire of her heart. Following the National Prayer Breakfast, Kara fervently prayed for 6 weeks for three things to happen and all three did!
During this time, Kent had a vision in a dream of Kara as his wife. After the vision he sent her a text and they were back in contact. Amazingly, within a few hours of Kent’s text, his grandfather, Marvin Phillips went to be with Jesus. His grandfather had had been praying daily for years that God would bring Kent a wife. A prayer answered — perhaps an assignment completed.
Destined for Love
What once seemed like “somehow” and “ironic” events, began to seem increasingly providential – an
emerging God scripted love story.
As is written, “I have found the one whom my soul loves.” Song of Solomon 3:4, so it was happening to Kent
and Kara. After months of innumerable video chats, phone calls, and airline miles, Kent took Kara to dinner on the
50th floor of the Devon Tower in Oklahoma City – the tallest building in Oklahoma.
Kent loves surprises so in Kara’s favorite color, Kent gifted Kara with a purple Bible engraved with the name
Kara Aubrey Bresee. She was speechless. Little did Kara know, Kent had secretly arranged to have Kara’s family hidden in the Devon Tower to add to their once in a lifetime moment.
Together with different gifts, they now prepare to join their lives together with unity in passion and
purpose to bring light to the world.
What once seemed impossible, Kent and Kara now see as providential, for such a time as this.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17
What a beautiful love story of divine connection ultimately leading to their intimate wedding at the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church surrounded by close family and friends. Joyful love abounded during their evening ceremony, and as the rain sprinkled into the night, their wedding celebration continued at Ironwood Country Club.
